COP 30: Turning Climate Commitments into Action!

In the lead-up to COP30, the ACA Fellowship 2025 will convene a dynamic cohort of climate leaders in Rio de Janeiro for a three-day immersive experience as part of the Local Leaders Forum. Fellows will engage with official programming from partner organizations such as C40, ICLEI, and Bloomberg, while also participating in ACA-exclusive learning sessions designed to foster peer exchange across countries and regions.

This year’s fellowship will focus on bridging policy and action, by exploring how the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), with a strong focus on multi-level governance, can accelerate action both at regional and local levels.

In our sessions we explore how national and local governments are working together to deliver CHAMP principles, as well as how these types of voluntary initiatives led by NGO coalitions help strengthen high-integrity climate action and policy planning in subnational governments. We also zoom in on the efforts that city governments are undertaking to improve waste management, by reducing plastic waste and methane from organic waste. Lastly, we explore the broader role of cities in conserving key biodiversity in Latin America and beyond.
